RocketSim: An Essential Developer Tool
as recommended by Apple

Issue 201
Jan 09, 2024

How I increased my daily new app installs for RocketSim by 23%.

At the start of Q3 2023, I shared my goals for the quarter with you. One of them was increasing RocketSim's number of daily new app installs from 47 to 61. I'm happy to share that I increased daily new installs to an average of 58 (+23%!).

Here are the key initiatives that made an impact.

Increased Mac App Store Conversion Rate
I gained many impressions, but App Store Connect’s benchmarks showed that my 1.6% conversion rate was below average.

I changed my first screenshot to use a larger font with a copy of “Essential Tool for App Developers,” and I’ve also added an App Preview video showcasing the design comparison tool.

My daily average conversion rate increased from 1.6% to 2.5% (+56%).

Created documentation
RocketSim’s website showcased features but didn’t have a clear FAQ and documentation. While I don’t have the metrics, I’m sure the brand-new documentation leads to more installs.

Testimonials & Affiliates
If I tell you RocketSim is great for app developers, you might think it’s a sales story. If others speak from their experience, it might be more convincing. I’ve added testimonials to the RocketSim homepage, and I opened affiliates so I wouldn’t be the only one sharing RocketSim’s quality.

Altogether, these initiatives resulted in a great increase in daily installs. Next week, I’ll dive deeper into my goal to increase my Monthly Recurring Revenue by 40%.

THIS WEEK'S BLOG POST

The @Observable Macro was introduced during WWDC 2023, and I've finally found a moment to dive deep into it. I'm highly impressed by how Macros make this implementation simple at the surface level but detailed at the implementation level. The best part is that we gain substantial performance improvements in our SwiftUI views.

It’s best practice not to use AnyView at all. If you do, read this article by Martin Mitrevski , as it impacts performance.

An interesting article by Pol Piella explains how you can use Stable Diffusion models in Swift. I’m relatively new to stable diffusion (text to image), so it’s great to have a way to get started with it in Swift!

OPTIMIZATION

Throughout the years, we’ve been optimizing how we work with support at WeTransfer. An essential implementation has been our open-sourced Diagnostics framework, which allows us to fix user-reported bugs much faster.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

This week’s question is from L. Tahar, who finds it challenging to prioritize work when you have more than one big, important feature.

At my day-to-day job, the project managers at WeTransfer help me prioritize. However, for my personal side projects, I have to prioritize myself since time is limited.

Even though you might have multiple important projects, I believe it’s crucial for success to focus on a single goal to retain context and efficiency. Switching between tasks will lead to lost time due to getting up to speed again.

I always try to determine which goals have the larger return on investment. For example, this quarter, one of my goals is to increase daily newsletter subscribers. I’m starting with the tasks that will have a direct impact on a daily basis, as I’ll benefit from its impact throughout the quarter.

Prioritizing is a case-by-case study, where statistics and return on investment should help you guide which one to pick up first.
