This week's submitted question is from Oleksandr:
How to feel fulfilled after a day of work and prevent feeling that the day was too short?
After going independent last March, I expected to feel freedom. I could work on personal projects and had no more meeting days. However, things changed quite a bit.
Everything you do directly impacts your personal growth and results. In fact, it impacts your revenue and income. It became challenging to stop early in the afternoon because it felt like there was always work to do.
Another side effect was feeling unfulfilled. Even though I did a lot, I wouldn’t always have an overview of what I did. I would even forget about the little things I did in the morning. The result? The day was too short, and I thought I had done nothing.
Things changed rapidly due to a slight change: daily planning. Every Monday, I plan my week and every day, I plan the tasks in more detail. I tell myself: “If I can finish these three tasks, that would be amazing!”. It often turns out that I can finish these tasks quicker than expected, making it easier to stop early afternoon.
The point is that I’m able to reflect and realize I did more than I thought was possible. I also prevent myself from doing more than I planned for the day. Even if I cannot finish the scheduled tasks, I’ve still guarded my day from doing much more than planned.
Finally, planning and completing allow you to oversee your completed tasks. This results in fulfillment, reflection, and motivation. I even create tasks and tick them off immediately if I didn’t make a task at first. This gives me a complete overview of my achievements and even more fulfillment.
